A couple of Stanford University students have started a grassroots marketing campaign for US Presidential Candidate Barack Obama called Youbama. Youbama is a mashup of Digg and Youtube allowing people to create a short video of themself discussing why they support Obama. Viewers then have the ability to vote up their favorite clip. The clips on the site already include a couple of celebrity endorsements from George Clooney and Charles Barkley.
This is a great example of using social media to engage the youth demographic in the political process. The best part of it all, is that this was not set up by the Obama campaign. This endeavour is emblematic of the web savvy campaign that the Obama camp has run up until this point.
This week brought us another interesting assortment of videos. I found the decision this week to be easier than last week, but still rather entertaining. After all of the votes were gathered from last week, we have a tie…now this is not the ideal outcome as how are Nadia and I supposed to get bragging rights for the week if there is a tie. Please do not do this to us again. I would really like to win this week and promise to send you good karma if you vote for me:) I’m thinking that Nadia and I need to get a little trophy to put on our desk to let the whole office know who the weekly winner is. If you guys have any ideas on a good trophy, let me know…it needs to be really funny though…like our pumpkin carving cows foot drinking glass prize (if you can top this, I’ll give you a shout out next week).
Now get your popcorn and get ready to laugh…
Nadia
Last week we had Tom Cruise looking bat crazy preaching to us…but that wasn’t nearly as funny as the response vids we got to see this week. So my vid of the week is the best of the responses. Enjoy. (For some reason Funny or Die videos wont embed here so you’ll need to follow the link). The Parody Video Tom Cruise Wants You to See

This one was easy for me. Its got a cute dog doing something funny. And beyond that, this video was sent to me so many times and through many mediums (digg, facebook, email - really this week was bad with email forwards, it kinda reminded me of 2003, but this particular email I liked) that I know other people got a kick out of it as much as I did - so to perpetuate the forwarding cycle, I bring you my video of the week…Dog Vs. Balloons
And now our runner up:
We couldn’t have to Scientology videos win this week, but we also couldn’t let this video slip by without some sort of mention.
Hi all, this is the first installation of our weekly video of the week. Every Thursday, Nadia and I will post the video that made us laugh, cry or preferably almost pee our pants the most. Now in the spirit of the friendly rivalry that Nadia and I have going on, you need to let us know who’s video you liked better. You know that I’m going to win, but we do need to give Miss Nadia a fighting chance:) So after you watch the videos, vote for your winner in the poll in the left. If we’ve overlooked a particularly awesome video, send us a link.
This week was particularly awesome on the video front, aside from Nadia and mys favorite vids, we have a couple runners up. So get out your popcorn and soda, sit back, and enjoy.
And now our favorite videos:
Jenn - This week was easy for me, how could I not choose the stupid Australian kid…I love how he won’t take of his glasses for the uptight host.
Nadia - How could we not include this video. This one goes out to everyone that still laughs at fart jokes.
And the runner-up…our favorite nut job (no not Britney this time - I’ve decided to give her the week off, although she did provide me with more amusement than I’d care to admit to) Tom Cruise. I’m not sure how long this video will stay up as the original has already been pulled and the Scientologists have already started the lawsuits over it.
With odds of winning Extreme Makeover Home Edition slim to none (and Ty Pennington is pretty grating with that megaphone regardless of the 6pack), our newest contest is giving you a change to redo that house with $40,000 worth of prizes for the top 3 winners in furniture and electronics!
Mattress Mack, Texan icon, has just launched his newest contest looking for your best Mattress Mack commercial between 30-90 seconds long. The winner will be chilling out in their new home digs, watching their commercial air on their plasma big screen- theater style.
So if you are in the Houston area, send off those video’s and you could be the next “iMack”.
