Happy Holidays from memelabs!

Friday, December 19th, 2008

by Kate LeGresley

It’s hard to believe there are only 6 more sleeps until Christmas!

We’ve been busy with some fantastic memelabs contests this year, and we’ve really enjoyed seeing the wide variety of videos you all contributed. Though it’s hard to pick our favourite moments of 2008, highlights included helping Wells Fargo contest to donate $450,000 to charity. The three charities were Boys & Girls Clubs of America (bgca.org), Habitat for Humanity (habitat.org), and Junior Achievement (ja.org). The Gap contest, which inspired Gap employees to put together a video of their favourite non-profit, warmed our hearts as we learned about each cause. Life Rolls On is the non-profit organization who came out on top. Participants in the Transworld WhoTube contest, you impressed us with the sheer volume of your submissions–you guys are great skaters. And lately at the office, we’ve been enjoying a few of the best videos we’ve seen in a while, as part of the Cellular South contest that’s running currently.

From everyone here at memelabs we’d like to take this moment to thank you. We’ve had an amazing time this year, and we can’t wait to do more work with you in the future!

Thanks to all our friends and family.

HO HO HO! Here are some holiday chuckles:

Ooh pick me pick me: funny network names

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

Posted by Grace Carter

Most of us, as we surf the web, opening our MacBooks and Acers in various coffee shops, apartments, and office waiting rooms, inadvertently see the names of an array of wireless networks. A few weeks ago, I came across a network named “hot humping action.” After I fell off my chair laughing, I realized it was time to start paying attention.

With the help of friends, we’ve gathered a list of wireless network names of note—they range from the funny, to the lewd, to the downright poignant (see last one). We’ve classified them for your entertainment, below. Thanks to everyone who weighed in! And without further ado:

The random

  • Coconut Connection
  • United Nathan Network
  • Slayer (Broadway & St. George)
  • Mr. Weenies Wifi
  • Seymour Pugs

The pervy

  • Hot humping action (4th & Main)
  • GetYourPornHere
  • Internet herpes (Ontario & 2nd)
  • Testicle (8th & Main)
  • Masturbation Station (Cook St. @ Fort, Victoria, BC)

The angry-at-the-world

  • He’s mine, bitch
  • For-a-virus-connect
  • Our tubes are dirty
  • Its our internets not yours
  • F*ckOff  (x2) (1 near the Cossette building! Not ‘from,’ just ‘near’)
  • Gof*ckyourself
  • Get yer own, f*ckface (St. George & Bernard, Toronto, ON)

The clever

  • Rich Nourishing Internet (4th & Main)
  • Free for first 5 seconds
  • Ooh pick me pick me
  • Slow as hell but cheap
  • Infrequency
  • Currently hijacked
  • Why won’t you love me?

Doubtless, you have your own gems. What’s the best wireless network name you’ve come across?
