And the winner is…

A screenwriter, a stay-at-home mom and an area middle school teacher are the top winners in the first ever Mattress Mack Video contest sponsored by Gallery Furniture.
In January, Jim “Mattress Mack†McIngvale had a good natured challenge for all of those who love to make fun of his patented Gallery Furniture “Save You Money†commercials. The public was invited to create their own commercial for the chance to win up to $25,000 in furniture and electronics and see their creation on-air.
“We were overwhelmed by the response, not only by the entrants but also by those that logged on to view the videos and vote,†McIngvale said.

The grand prize of a $25,000 Gallery Furniture shopping spree went to Houstonian James Kovacik. James, the creator of “Mattress Man,†works for a local radio station and has written multiple screenplays that he hopes will get picked up for production in the near future. James created the winning video with the help of Koop De Ville, a University of Texas film student, and Joel Ruiz who played the part of “Mattress Man.†James sang the entire theme song.
The second place prize of a $10,000 Gallery Furniture shopping spree was awarded to Erin Hernandez and her husband Markos for their video “The Wise Lawn Manâ€. Erin is a stay-at-home mom with three daughters and Markos is a high school theatre teacher.
In third place, receiving a $5,000 Gallery Furniture shopping spree is Charles Brown. Charles is an instructor at Stovall Middle School in Aldine ISD. Charles and fellow teacher, Mike Jefferson, impersonated Ray Charles and included a modern rap. According to the two men, the script they wrote did not last and most of it was adlibbed.
A big congrats to all of the winners and to the participants for making the contest such a success. We look forward to catching your commercial on TV!
