Get out your video camera! Maple Leaf Farms is looking for creative recipes using Maple Leaf Farms duck -- prepared for all to see in a short video.

Simply register to create an account, then click on "Upload" to login and submit your original video recipe that showcases duck (along with the written recipe and your contact information). Once your video is approved, you’ll officially be in the running for our three top prizes.

Plus, get your family and friends involved and have them vote for your video for a chance to win weekly prizes. To be able to vote, they need to register and login. Then choose a video thumbnail and click on the "Vote" button that appears in the upper right corner of the video.

Recipes will be judged based on the following criteria:

  • Recipe Ingredients and Ease of Preparation
  • Originality and Creativity of the Recipe
  • Visual Appeal of the Recipe Demonstration and Prepared Recipe
  • Public Vote (Round I Judging)
  • Taste (Round II Judging)

You may submit as many video recipes as you like, up to 4 minutes in length each. Each video recipe must be submitted separately. Recipes may be submitted for any menu part: appetizer, soup, salad or entrée. Video submissions will be accepted July 1-August 20, 2010. Top 10 Rules

The “Strut Your Duck” Video Recipe Contest (“Contest”) is sponsored by Maple Leaf Farms, Inc., with its principal place of business at 9166 North 200 East, Milford, IN 46542 (“Sponsor”). The Contest is hosted and organized by Memelabs.com, with its principal place of business at 37 Dunlevy Avenue, Vancouver, BC, Canada, V6A 3A3 (“Organizer”). By submitting a video entry, each entrant accepts and agrees to be bound by these Official Rules.

Eligibility:
The Contest is Open to legal residents of and currently residing in the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia, who are 18 years of age and older as of June 1, 2010. Employees, officers, directors, agents and representatives of Sponsor, its affiliates, subsidiaries and agencies (collectively, “Promotion Parties”),  and Organizer, immediate family members of the foregoing (defined for these purposes as parents, children, siblings, step-parents, step-children, step-siblings, and their respective spouses) or persons living in the same household as the foregoing, as well as professional chefs and caterers, food editors, and persons who create recipes for pay are not eligible to enter the Contest. Contest is void where prohibited.

Winners will be required to sign an affidavit of eligibility and a liability release form (except where prohibited) affirming their agreement to all terms, conditions, and restrictions in these Official Rules.

Video Submissions and Recipes must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Video running time:  approximately 2-3 minutes.  If the video entered into the Contest (“Video Submission”) is longer than 4 minutes, only the first 4 minutes will be judged.   
  • Language: English.
  • Creative Requirements: The Video Submission must show the preparation of one (1) recipe using Maple Leaf Farms duck products. The written recipe must be submitted along with the Video submission, and the recipe must be given a name. The recipe must include the full list of ingredients with their exact quantities.
  • Originality: The Video Submissions and recipes must be the original work of the entrant and may not:   (i) have been previously published or awaiting publication at the time of submission, (ii) have previously won an award or prize of any kind, or (iii) contain any material that would violate or infringe upon the rights of any third party, including copyrights, trademarks or rights of privacy or publicity. Previously published recipes (such as those appearing in cookbooks, magazines and newspapers, published or promoted by duck companies, or publicized on the Internet) and winning recipes from other publicized contests will be disqualified.
  • Non-infringing:  Acceptable source video may only include sources that are not copyrighted (unless entrant owns the copyright). Entrant hereby represents and warrants that all images and soundtracks included in the Video Submission are not copyrighted material and agrees that entrant will be solely liable for any breach of such representation and warranty. This means, do NOT use commercial copyrighted music or images including but not limited to trademarks, logos, or copyrighted material not owned by entrant or images published on or in websites, television, movies, or other media.
  • Format:  Video Submissions can be in any format; provided, however, that files larger than 100 MB will not be accepted.  Videos must be no longer than four (4) minutes long and may be shot with camera phones, digital video cameras, or any other digital moving image format.  No still photo entries will be accepted. 
  • Submission:  Video Submissions must be submitted via the website www.memelabs.com/mapleleaffarmsduck as instructed after registration by entrant. If you have problems uploading, please contact info@memelabs.com. If you are having problems uploading, you must make contact with Organizer before the Contest deadline expires.
  • Additional Terms:  Video Submissions and recipes (“Entry Materials”) must comply with the following:
    • Video Submission must contain shots of the Maple Leaf Farms duck product package;
    • Video Submission must record the preparation of a recipe using a Maple Leaf Farms duck product (Whole Duck, Boneless Duck Breast Filet, Boneless Duck Breast Filet l’Orange, Roasted Garlic Marinated Boneless Duck Breast Filet, Duck Leg Quarter, Duck Breast Meat, Roast Half Duck, Rotisserie Roast Half Duck, Rotisserie Duck Breast, Duck Leg Confit, Simply Duck Cooked Duck Legs (Original, Barbecue or Herb flavors), or Duck Wing Drummettes);
    • Actual Maple Leaf Farms brand name and logo or packaging may be used; provided, however,  entrant must not change or recreate the Maple Leaf Farms logo or packaging;
    • Video Submission must not depict dangerous or reckless conduct, including risky or unsafe techniques or activities;
    • Video Submission must not contain profanity, pornographic, or sexual content, content promoting illegal drugs, tobacco, firearms, or weapons, hateful content of any kind (including racism, sexism, etc.), content that promotes violence or harm to another living creature, or any other offensive, obscene, or inappropriate content;
    • Video Submission must not defame, misrepresent, or contain disparaging remarks about other people or companies, including, but not limited to Sponsor;
    • Video Submission must not promote a political agenda regardless of the political affiliation;
    • Video Submission must not primarily act as an advertisement or product placement for any particular product or service (except for Sponsor’s products referenced above);
    • Video Submission must not contain materials embodying the names, likenesses, photographs, or other identifying elements of any person other than entrant, living or dead, without permission.


Prizes:
One (1) Grand Prize Winner will be awarded four-thousand dollars ($4,000.00), Free Maple Leaf Farms duck products for a year (12 fifty dollar [$50.00] coupons), and will have his or her recipe featured on the Maple Leaf Farms website.  Approximate retail value (“ARV”): $4,600.00.

One (1) First Place Runner-Up Winner will be awarded two-thousand-five-hundred dollars ($2,500) and will have his or her recipe featured on the Maple Leaf Farms website.  ARV: $2,500.00.

One (1) Second Place Runner-Up Winner will be awarded one-thousand dollars ($1,000) and will have his or her recipe featured on the Maple Leaf Farms website.  ARV:  $1,000.00.

Seven (7) Weekly Prizes will be awarded to the video receiving the highest number of votes during a specific week of the Video Submission Period.   Specific week periods are:  July 1, 2010 – July 8, 2010; July 9, 2010 – July 15, 2010; July 16, 2010 – July 22, 2010; July 23, 2010 – July 29, 2010; July 30, 2010 – August 5, 2010; August 6, 2010 – August 12, 2010; and August 13, 2010 – August 20, 2010. Prize will be a package of Maple Leaf Farms products.  ARV:  $50.00

Total ARV of all prizes: $8,450.00. No substitution or transfer of prize is permitted by a winner. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value. All prizes will be awarded, provided a sufficient number of entries are received.  All Federal, state and local taxes, if any, are solely the responsibility of each respective winner.

Time Frame:
The Contest starts at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on July 1, 2010, and ends at 11:59 pm EST on August 20, 2010 (“Video Submission Period”).  Winners will be announced publicly on or by September 16, 2010.

How to Enter:
Entrants may enter the Contest by visiting
www.memelabs.com/mapleleaffarmsduck (“Site”). You will be required to register by creating a username and password and entering a valid e-mail address. Then you can log in to upload your Video Submission after completing a brief entry form (providing full name, date of birth, full address and phone number) and submitting the recipe that is demonstrated in the Submission Video.  Video entries should demonstrate the preparation of a duck recipe by the entrant.  Entrants assume all risk of lost, late, misdirected, incomplete, or illegible entries.   

Grant of Licenses:
By submitting the Entry Materials, each entrant understands and agrees (and agrees to confirm in writing, if requested by Sponsor or Organizer) that the entrant is granting to Sponsor a perpetual, world-wide, unlimited, irrevocable, royalty-free license in and to all Entry Materials in whole or in part (including any copyrights and derivative works and concepts or ideas depicted therein). The Entry Materials, in whole or in part, may be edited, modified, adapted, published, reproduced, and used commercially by Sponsor for any purpose and in any media whatsoever without further compensation to or review by entrant will not be returned.   By submitting the Entry Materials, each entrant grants to Sponsor a perpetual, world-wide, unlimited, irrevocable, royalty-free license to use the entrant's name, photograph, likeness, voice, address (city and province/state) and testimonials, in printed, broadcast or new media, in perpetuity, in any manner Sponsor deems appropriate in connection with Sponsor or its products, without further compensation.

Sponsor’s Responsibilities:
Sponsor has no obligation to prepare and taste every recipe. Entries, in whole or in part, that are (in Sponsor's sole judgment) inappropriate, noncompliant, or are in any other respect unsuitable will not be considered or posted. Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole and absolute discretion, to refuse, disqualify, or withdraw any Entry Materials and/or entrants at any time during the Contest. In the event the Entry Materials or any part thereof is found at any time to plagiarize or otherwise contain third party property, Sponsor will disqualify the entrant and, if previously adjudged a winner, will require prize forfeiture and return.

Judging Rounds and Selection of Finalists and Winners:
This Contest consists of two (2) separate rounds of judging during which Entry Materials will be rated based on the applicable judging criteria. Winners will be those who receive the highest ratings based on the applicable judging criteria.

Round I:   Sponsor will assign a panel of judges to select ten (10) finalist Entry Materials received during the Video Submission Period based on the following weighted judging criteria: (i) the recipe and its ease of preparation (40%), (ii) creativity and originality (15%), (iii) visual appeal of the Video Submission (25%), and (iv) public vote (20%). Finalists will be announced on the site on or by September 6, 2010.

Round II:   The Finalists’ recipes will be prepared by a professional chef in accordance with the entrant's recipe and will be presented for review by Sponsor’s judging panel, who will judge the recipes between September 6, 2010, and September 13, 2010, based on the following equally weighted criteria: (i) the recipe and its ease of preparation, (ii) creativity and originality, (iii) visual appeal of the Video Submission, and (iv) taste.  The judging panel will select three (3) winners (Grand Prize, First Place Runner-Up, and Second Place Runner-Up) to be announced publicly on or by September 16, 2010.

Round I Judging will be based on the following criteria:

  • Recipe and Preparation - 40%: Appropriate use of Maple Leaf Farms duck product, ease of preparation
  • Originality and Creativity – 15%: Original recipe, unique twist to ingredient usage, interesting
  • Visual Appeal – 25%: Demonstration of the recipe on video; clarity of directions; engaging to view;  look of the prepared recipe
  • Public Vote – 20%:  Voting on the Site where the Video Submissions are posted for viewing.  The use of robotic or automatic devices for voting is prohibited and Sponsor reserves the right to nullify all such votes and to disqualify the responsible individual.

Round II Judging will be based on the following criteria:

  • Recipe and Preparation – 25%: Appropriate use of Maple Leaf Farms duck product, ease of preparation; clarity of directions
  • Visual Appeal – 25%: Demonstration of the recipe on video; clarity of directions; engaging to view;  look of the prepared recipe
  • Originality and Creativity – 25%: Original recipe, unique twist to ingredient usage, interesting
  • Taste – 25%:  How the final prepared recipe tastes; how the duck tastes

In the event of a tie, the winner will be chosen on the basis of the creativity score. Winners will be notified via email or telephone by September 15, 2010.

All entries and participation in this Contest shall be governed by these Official Rules and the decisions of the Sponsor and its judges, whose decisions shall be final, binding, and conclusive on all matters. By entering, entrants agree to be bound by the decisions of the Sponsor and judges.  A panel of five (5) judges will evaluate submissions based on the judging criteria.

Voting:

  • The public can vote daily on their favorite video at www.memelabs.com/mapleleaffarmsduck starting on July 1, 2010 at 1:00:01 pm EST and ending on August 20, 2010 at 11:59:59 pm EST ("Voting Period"). The Voting Period is separated into thirty-seven (37) daily Voting Periods. A "Day" is defined as the 24 hours between 12:00:00 a.m. (midnight) EST and 11:59:59 p.m. EST. Sponsor's computer is the official time keeping device for the Contest.
  • The first time voters visit the Site, they will be required to register by creating a username and password and providing their e-mail address. By submitting a vote, the visitor warrants and represents that they agree to the complete Official Rules. Voters may not Vote using multiple email accounts. Votes must be submitted and received to the site during the Voting Period. Limit one (1) vote per person/registered users/email address per Day.
  • At the close of the Voting Period, the Video Submission’s public votes will be used as 20% of the Video Submission’s total score for Round 1 of the judging. Any use of robotic, macro, automatic, programmed or like voting methods will void all such votes. Any attempt by an entrant and/or his/her family/friends to vote more than the number of times authorized herein using multiple names, email addresses, phone numbers and/or any other fraudulent mechanism, as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion, shall give Sponsor the right to disqualify entrant.

Conditions and Restrictions Apply:
Your participation in this Contest, including your submission of Entry Materials to memelabs.com, shall be deemed to be your complete acceptance of the terms and conditions set out in these Official Rules.  Additional conditions and restrictions apply:

  1. By submitting your Entry Materials to the Organizer through the Site, you represent, warrant and undertake to Sponsor and Organizer that your Entry Materials (i) are your own original work and that you have the sole right to submit them to the Site; (ii) do not violate in any way rights of third parties, including but not limited to copyright and other intellectual property rights; and (iii) do not violate any applicable laws.
  2. Winners are subject to verification by Sponsor and Organizer, whose decisions are final and binding in all matters related to the Contest.  An entrant is not a winner of any prize unless and until entrant’s eligibility has been verified and entrant has been notified that verification is complete.  Winners will be required to execute and return a liability release and affidavit of eligibility (except where prohibited) within ten (10) days after notice of winning.
  3. Winners will be solely responsible for any and all federal, state and local taxes related to the prizes.  Sponsor and Organizer will report any individual winnings over $600 (in cash or fair market value of goods or services) in a one-year period to the Internal Revenue Service.  Winners will receive a Form 1099 from Sponsor or Organizer if Sponsor or Organizer reports any winnings to the Internal Revenue Service.
  4. Sponsor and Organizer reserve the right to change these terms and conditions at any time and at their sole discretion.

Limitation on Liability:

  • In the event that you breach any of your representations, warranties or undertakings contained herein, Sponsor and Organizer shall be entitled to and may seek indemnification from you for recovery of all legal fees, damages, claims and other expenses that may be incurred by Sponsor or Promotion Parties as a result of your aforementioned breach.
  • Each entrant agrees to indemnify Sponsor from any third party claims arising from or related to that entrant's participation in the Contest. By participating, entrants agree that Sponsor, Organizer and any other parties involved in the development, production, implementation and distribution of this Contest and their respective parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, service providers, and agencies, and their directors, officers, agents, employees, attorneys, and any other person or entity associated with such entities and/or the Contest shall not be liable for any claims, damages, losses or injuries, including any third party claims, arising from or relating to, in whole or in part, the Contest, the Site, or any Entry Materials including entry and participation in this Site and acceptance, possession, use or misuse of the prizes. All entrants further agree that in the event of any third party claims, damages, losses or injuries, arising from or relating to the Contest, the Site or any Entry Materials, entrants will indemnify Organizer and Sponsor from any and all such claims, including the attorneys' fees related thereto.
  • Organizer and Sponsor shall not be responsible for any technical malfunctions of the telephone network, computer online system, computer equipment, software, program malfunctions or other failures, delayed computer transactions or network connections that are human, mechanical or technical in nature, or any combination thereof, including any injury.
  • Entrants participating in the Contest and the Site are liable for any copyright infringements caused by their Video Submission.
